Strengthening Law Enforcement Families
So many of the traits that make a good guardian on the street can pose difficulties in the home, especially in this post-Ferguson environment. Throughout the years of being an officer, changes in: work schedule, community bias, critical incidents, repeated exposure to acutely stressful situations, and more, can change a LEO in many ways. We will discuss how this affects the LEO’s personality, relationships, hypervigilance state and more. In this class, the Law Enforcement Officer will learn how to increase communication in the home so that both the officer and the family feel supported and understood. Family members are encouraged to attend. Learn how to work together as a team to keep the family strong in this stressful environment. This course is offered in 4, 6 or 8 hour formats.
When is confrontation necessary and when it is best to let things go? Learn how to make anger productive instead of destructive. This 4- hour course addresses how to handle anger both in the workplace and with the general public.
Preventing Workplace Burnout
Do you know the difference between normal stress, chronic stress and dangerous burnout symptoms? You will have the opportunity to assess your current risk for burnout, and develop new strategies for managing both work and home stress so that burnout does not occur. 4-hour course
Emotional Survival and Basic Communication Techniques for Police Supervisors
This four-hour communication and wellness course will help supervisors demonstrate more effective communication inside and outside of the department. For example, you will learn how to mitigate complaints from the general public and deal with angry people. You will be able to identify your own communication style and that of others. This course will also help you understand the difference between stress, burnout and PTSD symptoms in yourself and your subordinates. It will end with teaching participants how to increase their effectiveness at lowering unhealthy stress levels.
This 4 - hour course will help assess current communication styles and skills and identify areas for growth. Participants will learn ways to communicate more effectively, as well as listen and respond more effectively. They will also learn and discuss how different communication skills apply in different contexts, such as with management, the general public, and colleagues.
